Fixing Leaky Homes
Heat escaping from homes is the reason Matilda’s Blanket was created, but if you are unable to secure a grant to get it , or you are waiting for us to install it, here are some options to help your home through this winter.
-
by simply laying a draft excluder at the bottom of any outward facing door you are stopping the warm air from escaping whilst keeping the cold air out. Most home shops stock draft excluders and they are very inexpensive whilst making a big difference.

If you have single glaze windows not only do you loose heat but condensation will keep coming back all year round and possibly lead to mould problems. But by simply installing plastic sheeting over the frame with simple installation kits it is like you are double glazing your home for a fraction of the cost. This is also a great option if you live in heritage areas and are unable to change your windows.

Heat from the sun is free so make the most of it. Open your curtains and let the sunlight in during the day to make use of this free heat. When it gets dark, shut your curtains, which act as another layer of insulation and keep warmth in your rooms. You should also make sure you don’t have any leaks or gaps so that the warm air can stay in and the cold air stays out – this also helps to reduce condensation.

Radiator panels are relatively cheap, easy to install, and ensure that heat from your radiators warms up your room and not your walls. They work by reflecting the heat back into the room
